Meet Your Locksmith

I'm Ben Pearson

I'm Ben Pearson, owner and operator of GreenKeys Locksmith. That word "operator" is doing real work in that sentence: when you call GreenKeys, I answer the phone. When a locksmith shows up at your home or business, it's me. The person you explain the problem to is the same person who fixes it — because there's only one person here, and you're looking at him.

I've lived in Fremont since 1989, so this is home territory for me. In 2008 I went to the Bay Area School of Locksmithing — it was in Redwood City back then — and graduated at the top of my class. The school has since closed — it shut down many years ago as attendance dropped off — so if you go looking for it, that's why you won't find it. I've always loved solving problems, learning how things work, teaching, and inventing better ways to do them, and I find helping people genuinely rewarding, so locksmithing turned out to be the right trade for me. I started GreenKeys in 2010, and I've run it the same way ever since: I answer the phone, and I do the work. Off the job, I've played hockey since I was a teenager — and I still play.

I'm a mobile locksmith based in Newark, California. I work on homes and businesses in Fremont, Newark, Union City, Palo Alto, Menlo Park, and Atherton, and I take work in the cities in between and nearby too. I hold California Locksmith License LCO 5134, and my hours are 9:30 AM to 11:30 PM, seven days a week.

Why I work solo

Plenty of “locksmiths” online aren’t locksmiths at all — they’re call centers. You dial a local-looking number, a dispatcher across the country answers, and whoever they send shows up, quotes you a different price than the one on the phone, and answers to nobody.

I built GreenKeys the opposite way. No employees. No subcontractors. No call centers, no dispatch services, no AI answering my phone. Just me. That means I keep my own standards because my name is the whole business — and it means your satisfaction is personally guaranteed by me. Not by a policy. By me.

Working solo does mean one honest trade-off: occasionally I’m with another customer and can’t pick up the moment you call. Leave me a message and I’ll get back to you. I’d rather be straight about that than pretend a team exists when it doesn’t.

How I work

  1. You call me at (510) 209-8317 and tell me what’s going on — a lockout, a lock that won’t turn, a house you just moved into, a smart lock you want installed.

  2. I give you an honest, flat quote. No upsell, no vague “starting at” price that balloons at your door. The quote is the quote.

  3. I come to you. I’m fully mobile — there’s no shop to visit, and that’s on purpose. I bring everything needed to do the work where the lock actually is.

  4. I do the work myself — rekey, lock change, repair, replacement, installation, smart lock setup — and I don’t leave until it’s right, because your satisfaction is personally guaranteed by me.

I started GreenKeys back in 2010 — and it's been just me, doing the work myself, ever since.

What I believe, and how I run every job: be honest, be trustworthy, give great value, solve the problem, minimize the customer's headache, and make sure they leave it secure and safe. That's the whole playbook.

The facts, straight

Licensed: California Locksmith License LCO 5134. Look it up — I encourage it.

Mobile only: no walk-in shop. I come to your home or business.

Hours: Monday–Sunday, 9:30 AM–11:30 PM. I am not a 24/7 locksmith, and I won't claim to be.

Areas: Fremont, Newark, Union City, Palo Alto, Menlo Park, and Atherton — plus cities in between and nearby.

Residential & commercial only: I don't do car keys, key programming, or fobs — no automotive work at all. And I don't duplicate keys; I work on the locks themselves.
